Mercury’s power steering was designed for and is used in Verado engines. With true finger-tip steering, it is truly an automotive-style power steering system. The complete system was designed by and tested at Mercury Marine, and safely controls additional torque and power larger engine packages provide. The power steering system has a pump/motor that is mounted inside the boat and is activated when the engine alternator is in operation. The system pumps synthetic fluid from the reservoir into the pressure line to the helm. As you move the steering wheel, the fluid moves through the hoses to the cylinder and returns back to the helm and then to the reservoir. This allows constant pressure in the system, giving the ability to easily steer the boat.
